• American Red Cross is a non-profit agency that relies on the help of its community to stay afloat. There are four ways you can help:

  Donate Blood The average adult has 12 pints of blood; we only need one. There is no substitute for human blood. Please make sure you donate blood regularly, every 56 days if possible. Many lives depend on it.

• Donate in-Kind Goods Unsolicited, spontaneous donations of goods and services from individuals and community groups, though well intentioned, have hidden costs and pose a number of complications for relief efforts. For these reasons, the Red Cross is unable to accept any large collections of items, such as used clothing, hygiene items, furniture, toys, and canned goods. Nor are we able to accept small, individual donations of these items. The Orange County Chapter will accept a vehicle as a donation.

• Donate Money The American Red Cross is not a government agency and all Red Cross disaster assistance is free thanks to the generosity of people like you. Our Chapter does not normally receive funds from the National organization for our activities. In fact, we provide services, funds, staff, and other resources for local, regional, and national needs. These must be funded by our local supporters. Our needs are great, and we are asking you to help. Please consider making a donation to the Orange County Chapter, as well as to the National Disaster Relief Program. All donations that are marked for the national disasters are used only for those purposes, but we are in great need of funds to support our local operations and activities. You can make a donation online, by telephoning our office, or by mail. Contributions to the American Red Cross, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes. • Donate Service! (Volunteer) Volunteers are the heart of the American Red Cross. The real value of a service donation to the Red Cross is magnified by the fact that the ratio of volunteer Red Cross workers to our paid staff is about 36 to 1. Work long-term or on a single project. Hours are flexible. It’s the best job you’ll never get paid to do. · Save lives · Become a community leader · Meet new people · Learn new job skills · Be a part of the largest volunteer organization in the country We welcome your ideas and any special talents you may have, including computer skills, public relations, event planning, etc. so feel free to offer suggestions!
